From Russia with love, the Siberian cat is a very hardy feline
indeed. Indigenous to the harsh winter climate of Siberia, the
Siberian cat breed evolved over centuries to become the big,
healthy, beautiful felines we know and love today. Despite being
around for eons, the Siberian cat was only recently introduced to
the cat fancy. It was recognized as a registered breed in Russia
only about 30 years ago, and North Americans have considered the
Siberian a pure breed and given it recognition in the CFA only since
the mid 90's.
Medium to large and heavily boned, the Siberian cat is a muscular
supercat with boundless strength and agility, able to take down any
mouse in seconds flat. Also greatly blessed
in the looks department, Siberian cats have a thick coat that is
medium length, and grows longer or shorter depending on the season.
In winter, the Siberian undercoat literally blooms, with pantaloons
and a gorgeous neck ruff. Siberians come in an array of colors,
ranging from grey tabby to orange tabby, chocolate to apricot. And
let's not forget the Siberian's majestic fluffy tail, always held
high in keeping with this breed's confident nature.
Siberian cats, as well as being strong and sturdy, are very much
people-oriented cats. Forget the stereotype of the lofty, disdainful
cat - Siberian cats love their people and they do this without being
needy or clinging. They have very mellow personalities and adapt
easily to new situations.
Siberians are truly the cat for all seasons, and as such, are very
easy going and adaptable. Siberians love being part of the family,
and are very companionable, without requiring constant attention.
They are not adversely affected by noise, household turmoil, dogs
and other pets, or rambunctious children, so are a good choice for
both sane and crazy households. If you love cats but have cat
allergies, a Siberian cat, with it's hypo-allergenic coat, may be a
good choice for you as well. Siberian Cat Prices:
Siberian cat prices vary greatly from breeder to breeder. They
range from $500 to $2500, depending on whether you are purchasing a
companion kitten, or a Siberian kitten that will be a show cat or
breeding cat.
